Biography
Malagasy athletics star. African champion. 1992 Olympian.
Rabenala discovered in his hometown Fianaratsoa. Met Olympic champion Lee Evans in 1984 during an event in Antanarivo to decide pursue athletics career.
Became the second Malagasy athlete to win African seniors title in 1990 just three days after javelin thrower Fidele Rakotonirina. He also became first athlete to have three consecutive TJ gold medal at the African Champs which feat emulated by Hugues Fabrice Zango in 2024.
Rabenala won 10 medals at the Indian Ocean Games, five of the were gold. He represented Africa in the 1992 World Cup and contributed Africa's victory in the men's competition with his third-place finish. Finished 14th at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics in triple jump. His national records in both horizontal jumps endured more than 30 years now.
Retired from the athletics right after 1999 African Games where he secured a bronze medal. He served in Malagasy Olympic Committee, Malagasy Athletics Federation as vice-president.
He is working as a professor in business and economy at the University of Antananarivo.
