African champion javelin thrower. He dominated Tunisian scene more than 10 years and claimed three continental medal including victory in 1984 by 77.40 metres championships record. He reached career-high at the Mediterranean Games 1979 as secure silver medal by 78.42m.
Represented Tunisia at the World Athletics Championships in 1987 Rome and recorded a modest mark of 64.66m in the qualifying round.
Chaabani won back-to-back Arab Championships titles in 1981 and 1983. His first and last national titles span was 14 years.
