The first title determined at the World Indoor Championships in the opening round. Canada's Sarah Mitton has become World Indoor champion seven months later her outdoor silver.

The 27-year-old Canadian from Nova Scotia has arrived in the final as number two of the world behind the Dutchwoman Jess Schilder. She opens her final campaign with 19.40m, then progressed to second place behind Yemisi Ogunlese by 19.81m in third round. She throwed the ball beyond 20 metres mark in the next attempt and secured top position only by one centimetres gap between the German. While Ogunleye couldn't produced yet another valid mark in last three rounds, Mitton concluded the contest by 20.22m shot which gave her first global title as becoming only fourth Canadian woman to have World Indoor gold.

European Games silver medallist Yemisi Ogunleye may be missed chance to becoming first German champion at the event since 1995 but still satisfied with the result. She produced massive PB (19.57 to 20.19) to secure first world medal in her career at age of 25.

United States' double world champion Chase Jackson (nee, Ealey) has finished third in shot put final. The American putter have recorded 19.67 in the competition and claimed her second World Indoor medal after 2022 silver in Belgrade.

NOAH & FEMKE EASY

Two stars who ousted in the opening session were easily qualified for the semis in their events. Double world sprint champion Noah Lyles started his first Indoor title campaign 6.57 clocking in the heats. The talismanic American reacted securely (0.170) and reached top speed around 55 metres to grabbed his position in the semi final list as sixth.

World indoor record holder Chris Coleman booked his place with a superb run, 6.49 secs in sixth heat. Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala (6.52) and national record breaking Cameroonian Emmanuel Eseme (6.54) were among the fastest guys in the heats as well. The surprise was came in second heat where European Indoor champion Samuele Ceccarelli crushed out.

Femke Bol, the clear favorite to win 400m title here, just eased up for warming in the heats. She run 52.00 in heat 4 and well distanced to United States' Alexis Holmes who came second with 50.53. Bol's teammate Lieke Klaver clocked 51.31 to winning of quickest heat ahead of national record breaker Susanne Gogl-Walli of Austria, run 51.43 secs. The four of the top six marks in the qualifying heats were recorded in same race, heat 2.

VICENTE OUT

One of the main stories in the opening session is about Maria Vicente of Spain. She started ideally to five-events discipline by collecting 1113 points in the hurdles before ruptured her achilles during high jump. She leaved from the field by chair and have to retired from competition immediately.
