Alana Reid became the fourth consecutive Jamaican woman to take 100 metres dash title at the World Juniors. Reid collected her second World U20 medal after her 200 metres bronze two years ago. The Jamaican arrived in the Peruvian capital as World U20 season leader and claimed the title with 11.17 - clocking 0.08 off her personal best. British Virgin Island's upcoming star, Adaejah Hodge, a year younger than their Jamaican rival, concluded the final in second place and secured only the second medal in the championship history for the Island by joining Kyron McMaster, who was crowned in the 2016 edition.
The men's 100 metres final featured two Olympic silver medallists from South Africa, and both men climbed on the podium after the race. Bayanda Walaza, 18, clocked 10.19 to secure first-ever South African gold at the event as teammate Bradley Nkoana, who established a 10.03 national junior record this year, joined him after finishing third. The South African teammates were separated by sensational Thai Puripol Boonson, who recorded 10.22 for the silver. Boonson, a silver medallist from last year's Asian Games and an Olympian, just became Thailand's first-ever World U20 medallist.
The Australian multi-talented athlete Delta Amidzovski wins women's long jump by recording a personal best of 6.58 metres - just two centimetres shy of 52-year-old Oceanian junior record held by jointly Lyn Tillett and Brooke Stratton. Amidzovski is enjoying her second appearance at the event as an 18-year-old, who brought the second title to Australia after the team's 4x400 mixed relay victory.
In the women's discus contest, Chinese Asian U20 champions made double on the podium as Bingyan Han threw 56.57 metres to claim gold. Han added her name to the winners list at the event as eight Chinese, but the first since 2008.
