Indian athlete Gulveer Singh completed a distance double in three days at the Asian Championships, joining fellow Indian Govindan Lakshmanan, who achieved the same feat in 2017. Singh overcame a 19-strong field in 5000 metres and finished 13:24.77 to break championship record by almost 10 seconds. Singh who lowered Indian record under 13 mins at indoor meet in Boston, has a tight grip during the 5000 metres final and concluded it with a sweet victory over Thailand's four-time SEA Games champion Kieran Tuntivate.
India's Nandini Agasara added another victory to the nation's medal haul in Gumi. Agasara, 2025 Indian National Games winner, totalled 5941 points to beat Chinese Liu Jingyi for the heptathlon title.
Kazakhstan earned second gold at the championships as Norah Jeruto clocked 9:10.46 in the steeplechase and broke championships record. India's Parul Chaudhary ran a personal best of 9:12.46 to secure silver ahead of 10,000 metres winner Daisy Jepkemei, who claimed the second medal in three days.
The men's discus title goes to China as Abuduani Tuergong threw 63.47 in the final to defend his title in 2023. This victory means that China has six of seven golds in the throwing events so far.
