Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games athletics competition kicked off in Oran's Olympic Stadium in front of more than 20,000 spectators. In opening day, seven gold medals have distributed as Algeria took double titles. 

Here are some important short notes from day one.

♦ Algeria wins four medals in opening day, two of them were gold. The host nation has been able to get only two medals in Tarragona 2018.
♦ Yasser Triki, Olympic fifth-placer and African Games Champion, became first TJ champion from Algeria.
♦ Turkey have completed their second consecutive 100 metres double. It's first time happened. Only Italy had done it before but seperately (1979 and 1987)
♦ Algeria celebrated double podium in Men's steeplechase - first title in the discipline since 1991.
♦ Men's 100 metre podium has not included any Frenchman or Italian for the first time since 1971.
♦ Serbia have doubled in shot put with Armin Sinancevic's games record effort (21.29m).
♦ 25 year-old Bassant Hemida became first Egyptian to have 100m medal in history, also she renewed Ekaterini Thanou's games record from 1997 by cutting it 0.02 secs.
♦ Portugal secured three medals in their second-ever appearance at the Games, but still looking their first gold. They have six silvers, two bronze now.
♦ 23 year-old Marija Tolj brought to fifth consecutive women's DT medal to Croatia.
♦ Zounia Bouzebra secured first throwing medal for Algeria since 1967 Games.
♦ 34 year-old Laura Redondo earned her third international medal in four months. She became first Spaniard to get hammer throw title after beating Turkey's Kıvılcım Kaya-Salman in very last round.
