Biography
Uganda's 10,000 metres and cross-country world champion. Born and bred in Eastern Uganda in a nine-siblings family. Became World U20 champion in Eugene to impressed athletics talent observers. Competed in Rio Olympics both 5000 & 10,000 metres.
In 2017, Joshua broken the 27-minutes barrier in London 10,000 meters final to captured the silver medal behind Mo Farah. Eight months later, he became double Commonwealth Games winner in Gold Coast (second man to do so). The multi-talented Ugandan secured his first senior global title in Aarhus for the Worlds XC. He destroyed strong Kenyan field with a clever run, became the first Ugandan ever to captured World XC gold medal. Not finished with the 2019 season, Joshua ends up the year with a stunning World Champs gold in Doha by 26:48.36 personal best in hot & humid conditions.
He amazed athletics world in Monaco by breaking 16-year old 5000m world record which previously held by Kenenisa Bekele, after long break of Covid-19. Cheptegei lowered the record nearly two-second despite his solo run in half of the race.
