Biography
Ireland's first Olympic gold medallist and world record holder in hammer throw. His 56.67m effort Wexford was ratified as world record in 1933. He barred from the 1936 Olympics for being member of NACA - independent Irish body of sport - which suspended from the Games by IOC. As an Irish nationalist, he backed to NACA's decision to refuse to acknowledge Northern Ireland as part of UK despite it cost him as possibly third Olympic gold in Berlin.

NOTES
- Refused to Tarzan movie offers in 1932.
- Went to US in 1938 once again for making pro-wrestling. But the project was fail with bankruptcy of the promoters.
- Brother, Con, also competed in decathlon at the Amsterdam 1928 Games. Son, Hugh, also was an Irish 12-times national champion in athletics.
- He was a qualified doctor. Worked for several hospitals.
