Biography
Former Turkish record holder vaulter. Olympian. His surname sometimes spelled as "Işım" with Turkish letters, but it is "İşim" formally.
Considered as greatest talent of his era in Turkey. Established a total of 64 Turkish national records for pole vault and 110H (or indoor equivelant events) including U18 & U20 age groups. He rised up Turkish senior PV record from 5.05 to 5.70 - which remains unbroken 23 years until 2021. He was an excellent hurdler and broke all national records in high hurdling events both indoors and outdoors. He is Turkey's first-ever PV Balkan champion in history.
He became first Turkish pole vaulter who qualify for the Olympics (1960 Rome PV athlete Orhan Altan was invited to the Games, not qualified) but did not competed the qualification round due to last minute withdrawal by a waist injury.
Moves to Jonesboro to attend the Arkansas State University in 1997. Coached and advised by former world record holder vaulter, Earl Bell.
Retired athletics after Sydney Olympics. Settled in New Orleans and became a mechanical engineer.
