Biography
Four-time Olympic champion. Former 200m and 400m world record holder. Considered one of the greatest of athletics history.
Born in Dallas. Graduated from Baylor University in Texas. Won his first of eight world titles in 1991 and sealed at least one gold medal at the Worlds until 1999. Johnson stamped his name as an athletics legend after his famous 200-400 double at the Atlanta 1996 Games, completed a feat never achieved before by a male sprinter. He crashed his own world record in 200 metres final with 19.32, the mark stood until 2008. Johnson also broke 400m world record in Seville 1999 World Champs.
In his pro career, he never failed to winning gold medal when he reach the final. After retirement, he made athletics commentary for BBC Sport for years.
He launched own pro-league project Grand Slam Track in 2024.
