History

The South Asian Games, formerly known as South Asian Federation Games (SAF Games), is a multi-sport sport organization held among southern Asian countries. The event patronage owned by South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) which formed by seven members; Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan also contested in four editions between 2004 and 2016.

South Asian Games athletics medal table led by India, biggest country in the region. However, Sri Lanka whose had great tradition in sport, toppled the great rival on two occasions: 1991 and 2019. Pakistan earned nearly 200 medals in history of the games, mostly came from male athletes. 

Bhutan is the only country yet to win an athletics medal in South Asian Games until today.
